The idea of ecodesign goes from environmental to economic and social issues. Seeking solutions that are beneficial for nature. For design professionals, the search for sustainable solutions comes with the planning of spaces and products that cause the least impact on the environment. For the consumer, sustainable design is based on the conscious choice of products and solutions for lifestyle.

Therefore, we will show you in this article the ecodesign from the concept to the practice in 5 steps.

THE CONCEPT OF ECO DESIGN

According to the American researcher Victor Papanek, author of the book Design for the real world (1971), ecodesign must be thought in all stages of production, distribution, consumption, and disposal.

So to reduce the environmental impact, we must consider the integration with the nature and the optimization of non-renewable resources through:

Materials with low environmental impact: choose less polluting or recycled material.
Energy efficiency: use of manufacturing processes that consume less energy.
Quality and durability: produce quality articles, which last longer, to reduce the volume of waste.
Modularity: create objects that you can exchange parts in case of defects, to reduce discard.
Reuse: create products from the reuse of other objects.

ECODESIGN AND INTERIOR DESIGN

In interior design, these concepts can go beyond the material reused in furniture and decorative items. Currently, we have design projects that ecodesign is its main idea.

1. USE LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT MATERIALS

Lighting is essential for the comfort and good appearance of the environments, as well as ventilation. Therefore, to create a cozy and sustainable environment, you can use natural light and ventilation.

Open ceiling or big windows contribute to good air circulation and can give a charming touch with natural light.

3. CHOOSE TO REUSE

You can use antique furniture mixed with reused pieces. And also reuse materials that have good quality and have a long duration.

As an example the use of pallets. You just need to make a good coating and give attention and care to the finishes.

4. INVEST IN LANDSCAPE

Landscaping can be transformative in an environment if you combine it with the design.

5. SEEK THE OPTIMIZATION OF SPACE AND OBJECTS

Some accessories, such as the carpets, can greatly influence the climate of the environment.

They bring comfort and personality to the space. And you can find carpets made with natural fibers, maintaining the sustainability of the materials.

Berkeley Bar & Terrace : Why This Is “The Bar”

The Berkeley Bar & Terrace is the newest bar at The Berkeley hotel London. Opened last July, this bar comes to complement the Blue Bar that has welcomed the five-star hotel’s guests since 2000.

Located between Knightsbridge and Belgravia, The Berkeley hotel, founded in 1867, hosts clients worldwide for more than 100 years. Within the central London, its clients belongs to the upper class.

This luxury hotel forms part of the Maybourne Hotel Group with Claridge‘s and The Connaught in Mayfair.

Designed by the Scottish interior designer Bryan O’Sulllivan, The Berkeley Bar & Terrace dresses half of its walls with wood from The Fulbeck tree. This walnut tree with more than 400 years old fell in 2007 during the great storm. Coral, cream and pink tones accompany the brown and white tones of the walls in form of decoration and furniture.

The Snug

There is a particular room appropriated for little reunion up to 9 guests inside.

The snug reminds the traditional snugs back where women would use that private room to socialize without men’s judgement. It’s also transcripted in the decoration of the room which is more cosy and the tones are more feminine. Plus, there’s a mural by the New York-based artist TM Davy covering the wall depicting several women expressions.

The room offers privacy to the group with ts own sound system and on-the-button service.

On the menu, we can find some snacks and small plates as the Truffle Margherita Pizzetta, caviar or oysters.

On the other hand, there’s a vast choice in wine, rum, cognac and champagne from all over the world. Besides, they have worked with Gordon and MacPhail, a Scottish whisky producer to create a rare whisky from 1972. In fact, that year marks the period they moved to their current location.

All this can undoubtedly be enjoyed inside or outside in their terrace along with their fine selection of cigars. Furthemore, you can enjoy the view of London up there.

This is definitely the ideal spot for wine connoisseurs and lovers of luxury service and space. After a visit of The Buckingham Palace or a shopping day at the Knightsbridge‘s district, this is the bar to end your day.
