Tom Dixon was born in Tunisia in 1959, after moving to London. But contrary to what many people imagine, Dixon is not graduated in Design. He went to Chelsea Art School for a short period of 6 months, but after a motorcycle accident he did not continue the course.

That was when Dixon decided to venture into other forms of expression. In 1981 he decided to play bass in a band and also to learn how to weld objects by himself. He spent 2 years as a musician until another motorcycle accident interrupted his plans again.

So was in this company that the designer created the famous “S” chair. In 1989, this chair quickly became an icon with its sculptural form and the absence of a traditional structure.
