The Copenhagen-based design festival, 3 Days of Design, returns for its 11th anniversary in 2024. This year’s festival, under the theme “Dare to Dream”, featured a vibrant program of exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops and parties, taking place from June 12 to 14. Over 400 brands, designers, and makers will participate, showcasing their work across 11 distinct districts in the city.

Some of the districts are: Amerikakaj, Bibliotekshaven, Carlsberg Byen, Designmuseum Danmark, Holmen, Kongens Nytorv, Marmorkirken, Nordhavn, Odd Fellow Palæet, Refshaleøen and Vor Frue Kirke.

With over 40 years’ experience at the forefront of the design industry, Kelly Hoppen is one of the most celebrated and sought after interior designers in the world.

Hoppen began her career at 16 when she was given the opportunity to design a family friend’s kitchen. So, that was what kick-started her iconic career. Also, Kelly’s globally renowned and ever-evolving style is defined by a subtle fusion of East meets West. It means clean lines and neutral tones, intuitively balanced with an opulent warmth.

She has designed for a number of celebrities, including David and Victoria Beckham; and Martin Shaw. Also, Kelly’s team has put their stamp on the homes, yachts, hotels, and jets of private clients all over the world.

Further, some of Hoppen’s most recent projects include a collaboration with Disney. So to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary, the Celebrity Edge cruise ship for Celebrity Cruises, an ultra-luxury residential tower block in Taiwan, One Park Taipei. And also LUX* Grand Gaube hotel, the second hotel she has designed for LUX* in Mauritius.

Kelly’s portfolio boasts a diverse selection of projects spanning the last four decades.

The author of nine design books, Kelly is also a TV personality, appearing as an investor on BBC’s Dragon’s Den, a judge on the Great British Design Challenge. And most recently as a candidate on Celebrity Apprentice in aid of Comic Relief.

“My philosophy has always remained the same. It’s about creating calm balanced environments based on Eastern cultures, i.e. order and creation of harmony. How people feel in a space is as important as the way it looks; one can’t be without the other to succeed.”

She has said of her design philosophy.

In sum, her interest in both furniture and product design shines through the authenticity of her work. She is a versatile person deeply committed to all areas of her creative output.

Ilse Crawford: The Art of Design

Ilse Crawford is a British designer, academic and creative director with a simple mission to put human needs and desires at the center of all that she does.

Although often described as an interior designer, Crawford’s portfolio contains projects ranging from a secluded garden for a Hong Kong restaurant to the conversion of a 100-year-old house in Stockholm into a boutique hotel.

Ilse Crawford started her career as a journalist and at only 27 she became the editor of Elle Decoration UK. After over a decade in magazines, with a mission to put human needs and desires back at the center of the design, she founded her multi-disciplinary practice Studioilse in 2001, which is her main business.

“Working for a magazine gave me a real on-the-ground education, an insight into what is actually successful. I saw so much new that I began to prioritize what would last and connect. I am still interested in the new, but I am also concerned about the relevant.”

“As the head of Studioilse, I mostly design interiors. But, in fact, we do a lot more than that here” Crawford said for Dezeen Magazine.

“Because, I think, interiors are ultimately where we live, they are a lot more than pieces of furniture. They’re really about the interior life, how we live as human beings.” In other words, it means designing furniture and products that support and enhance human behavior and actions in everyday life.

Crawford is the founder of the department of Man and Well-Being at the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven. Her mission extends to nurturing a new generation of students to always question why and how their work improves the reality of life.

She designed the Soho House club in New York, Babington House, the Electric Cinema, and the Hong Kong restaurant Duddell’s, as well as pieces for Georg Jensen.

It’s not a traditional restaurant & bar. Nor an art gallery. And it’s much more than an exclusive members’ club. Indeed, it’s a place where you pay a lot of money to be a part of, if you’re lucky to get in, since there is a massive waiting list. Despite Duddell’s undeniable opulence and grandeur, Crawford took her signature humanistic approach to design, where people are placed at the centre of the project.

Ilse Crawford received some awards throughout her career. Below, we highlight the most recent ones:

Queen Elizabeth II awarded her an MBE for her services to interior design, in 2014.
In 2015, she received a Doctorate honoris causa from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London
Ilse Crawford was named Designer of the Year on September 2017.

Crawford was profiled in the first season of the Netflix docu-series – Abstract: The Art of Design. This is an original documentary series highlighting artists in the field of design. It was released on Netflix on February 10, 2017

I don’t know ! What I do know is that the atmosphere is much better when the décor is warm and welcoming.

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated all over the United States and across. This day is known for thanking God for all the good things that happened to oneself. The turkey, the pumpkin pie fulfill tables and put smiles on faces and here you’ll find out some decor ideas for this special occasion.

If you have a small family, this is a perfect decoration to host Thanksgiving. The dark colors emphasize winter season as it gets darker sooner outside.

The concept of Wabi Sabi Décor is a Japanese philosophy that values beauty in imperfection, transience and simplicity. Originating from Zen Buddhism, wabi-sabi represents the balance between appreciation and time, which teaches us that everything is fleeting.

It’s an escape from everything that tries to convince us that we should want more.

Wabi Sabi, the Japanese Philosophy

To begin this article, it’s important to understand what the term wabi sabi means.
Wabi sabi teaches us to look positively at everything we have and to find beauty in what we think is imperfect. Wabi sabi is an ancient Japanese philosophy that helps us face our modern struggles without the illusion that we will achieve perfection.

The general concepts associated with this philosophy of life are impermanence, and its central principle is based on the belief that we should value everything that is authentic by recognizing three simple realities: “Nothing lasts, nothing is finished and nothing is perfect”.

The wait is over! Pantone released its color of the year for 2021 and surprised. In fact, two colors were chosen for Pantone 2021: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating yellow. Independently, the two colors stand out as different elements and come together to support each other. According to Pantone 2021, its combination expresses a message of strength, resilience and hope.

If the announcement already causes curiosity every year, the tone for 2021 was even more expected, since 2020 was a completely atypical year because of the covid-19 pandemic. More than just a trend, Pantone’s color of the year is also a reflection on the changes and needs of the current moment:

”The color of the year is very much a statement of how the world is feeling “

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute defined the duo colors as practical and solid as a rock but, at the same time, comforting and optimisti. This is a combination of colors that gives us resilience and hope.

Yellow is nothing new, since this is the second time that the color appears among the company’s chosen ones along with the 2009 Mimosa hue. But this was the first time that a gray nuance was chosen. Complementing each other perfectly, the solid, eternal and calm Ultimate Gray brings stability, while the vibrant, lively and warm Illuminating is stimulating, giving energy to any decor.
